Music in the epics of the Central Highlands

SUMMARY: According to the author Linh Nga Niê Kdam, almost people know that the Central Highlands’ epics are the orally-transmitted folk literature. However, people do not pay attention to the music art of Recitative in epics of ethnic groups in the Central Highlands. In this article, the female composer Linh Nga Niê Kdam introduced some basic characteristics in the melodic structures of three forms of epic narrative, including Klei k’han of the Ê đê people, H’amon of the Bâhnar people, and H’ri of the Jrai people. The author also raised suggestions in order that the heritage could exist in the communities as its great vitality in the year 1975 and before.
