SUMMARY: Even though Vietnamese art music has been established and developed with all necessary components: composers, compositions, performances, research, and training system, it is still only seen as a part of Vietnam’s contemporary musical scene. In this paper, author Lê Y Linh argued about the necessity in building a separate identity for Vietnamese art music.
