SUMMARY: Up to now, the issue to innovate the traditional musical instruments in order to satisfy the demand of improving the performance ability has still been the topicality. A lot of innovation has been successful, but many improvements just serve the purpose of “the Post-Colonial Mentality”. Within the knowledge of the musical instruments, referring the story of “Increasing the level of the traditional musical instruments” to the Post-Colonial Studies in cultural studies, this article explains the phenomenon of innovating the traditional musical instruments, ignoring the function and their cultural features. Te article also shares the points of view of ignoring the Post-Colonial Mentality during a process to innovate the traditional musical instruments in particular and Vietnamese culture in general.
